Making the holidays like the Olympics.....every 4 years!

At my WINGS support group today I said it would be great if Thanksgiving and Christmas took a sabbatical (for maybe a decade!).  Someone else mentioned maybe they could be like the Olympics.....every 4 years. So we decided that Thanksgiving would be in the summer (like the summer Olympics) and Christmas would be in the winter (like the Winter Olympics) and each would be every 4 years and never in the same year (just like the summer & winter Olympics aren't in the same year anymore).   Wouldn't it just be great not to have to deal with Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Gray Thursday!  And what about not having to deal with the pressure of being with family and pretending you want to be with them!  And how about not falling back into those old familiar familial roles that never seem to go away even though we're in our 50's!  What about not having to worry about whether your family understands why you think like you do.  What about not expecting them to change (they aren't going to read the books you want them to and if they do read them, they won't see themselves in it.  They won't research and try to learn more about incest on their own so they can understand.  They won't accept that you have different religious beliefs and different priorities. They won't be willing to talk about or even entertain opinions different from theirs.)  Wow....wouldn't that be great to take a sabbatical from all of those expectations?!  Maybe I can do that anyway.....leave the expectations behind.  It's difficult to want to be with people, tho, who don't even try.  Am I supposed to 'want' to be around family just because they gave me life?  Am I wrong to set boundaries and not be with them, because I refuse to play the 'I'm happy to be here' game?
